At the end of each swimming season, there is a “last chance” meet – the last chance for swimmers to get state times. This long course season, our team hosted the Last Chance meet on July 15 & 16.
Ryan always does well in our home pool. He ended up getting four more times at this meet! He swam the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, 200 Individual Medley, and 400 IM, beating his own times in every event by anywhere from 5 to 30 SECONDS! He didn’t swim the 50 fly and 50 free since he already had qualifying times in those events.
The meet was both Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning. I was a timer on Friday, and it was fun to be down on deck with Ryan. He even swam in my lane for one of his events! Rara took this cool picture during the National Anthem. That’s Ryan right under the flag, and that’s me in the turquoise shirt by the diving board.
The 100 fly is a difficult event. Ryan was the only 11 year old, with his 10 year old friend, Nathan, with the rest being 13-17 year olds (most events are aged grouped). But, again, he beat his own time by 29 seconds!!! He was neck and neck the entire time with his good friend (but competitor in the water), Nathan S. They did a great job against the older guys!
50 breaststroke…
After the 50 breaststroke, he had to turn right around and do the 100 breaststroke (in my lane). He had taken his cap off, and by the time he realized it was time for his event, he tossed his cap onto the chair by me, pulled on his goggles, and got on the block! It wasn’t his finest swim ever, but he still beat his own best time!
After the meet, Rara, Papa, Ryan & I went to Cafe Rio for dinner. Ryan's friend, Nathan, and his family were also there eating. We sat at the table next to them and chatted about how the guys did. It was a lot of fun.

maybe i'm slow, but i noticed last month that the rec center has a "home of the..." swim team sign. it looks awesome!
Yep, one of the guys on the swim team did it for his Eagle project. He had it up in time for the swim-team-sponsored triathlon the end of June. We love it!
