Traveling to Omaha

The day we had been anticipating for A YEAR finally arrived on Saturday, June 23. Rara & Papa took us to the airport to fly to Omaha for the Olympic Trials for swimming! I bought our tickets on June 25, 2011, so we had literally been waiting for a year. You’ve probably seen our countdown on the right side of our blog page the past several months. (I was so sad to now take it down!)

We checked our bags, went through security, and then found our gate. As we were waiting, we spotted someone who looked vaguely familiar, who also had a Speedo swim bag. As we started talking with her, we realized that it was Summer Sanders, former Olympian! Summer won gold for the 200 butterfly and the 4x100, silver in the 200 IM, and bronze in the 400 IM in 1992. She is now a sports commentator, and is traveling to the Trials to interview the swimmers on deck. We had fun talking with her, and she was so cute to ask Ryan a lot of questions about his own swimming!

Frances’ mom, Janae, picked us up at the Omaha airport, and drove us to the home of Frances’ sister, Rachael. We had dinner, and then Ryan enjoyed jumping on the trampoline with Rachael’s kids.

After the sun set, we saw fireflies for the first time! It was a great start to our trip.
