I normally do posts chronologically. But since so many elements of the storm and aftermath overlapped, I thought it might make more sense to group them by event or process, rather than chronological.
Rara & Papa’s yard has three large pine trees. The back yards on that street are not as deep as ours, so the trees are much closer to the homes. The neighbors across the street lost seven trees, including one that fell on their home. Luckily, Rara & Papa’s trees did not completely fall during the storm. But two of the three were blown partially over. Both trees were threatening their home, or the homes of the neighbors on both sides, depending on which way they finally fell.
They made several calls to tree removal companies, but everyone was booked. Imagine that. Finally, the company taking care of the trees across the street had enough completed there that they could come and take down Rara & Papa’s trees. So, Sunday, as we were getting things finished up at our house, they started the tree removal at Rara & Papa’s. When we went back to their house that afternoon, we watched the rest of the process.
Later, many neighbors then hauled them away (with help from Ryan), similar to what had been done at our house.

that's some serious tilt on that tree--can't believe they feel safe climbing up there!!
