The kids made posters, which hung in the hall by the 5th grade all week. I took a picture of Ryan with his when I took his birthday treat.
His poster was hanging by the posters of some of his best friends, so I couldn’t resist that picture. On Thursday, April 28, the kids gave 1-minute speeches to the other 5th graders. Ryan did his speech based on the Old Spice commercial/BYU library spoof/Sesame Street “Smell Like a Monster” spoof.

Hello, Muir lions.
Look at your face. Now look at mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, your smile is not like mine. But if you stop frowning and started smiling, your face could be like mine.
(Cheesy smile)
Look at your shirt. Now look at mine. Look down. Now look back up. Where are you? You’re in Muir Elementary – the friendliest school!
Did you know that 8 out of 5 dentists say that smiling is 6 bajillion times more effective than frowning?
Ha ha ha ha
Close your eyes. Now open your eyes. Where are you? You’re in a voting booth.
Look at your hands. Now back to me. I have it. It’s a pencil voting for Ryan for student council.
Look again. The pencil is now a Harry Potter wand!
Anything is possible when you’re a student at Muir – the friendliest school!
(Whistle part of Muir song.)

After all of the kids had given their speeches, the 5th graders voted. The votes were combined with the rankings/ratings from the teachers, and the top 10 kids were identified.
On Friday, April 29, the 10 student council members were announced. Ryan was one of them! Ryan is one of only 2 boys, so he’s pretty excited about that. In addition, two of his best friends from swim team also made it (Alissia N. and Sarah W.). He was disappointed that his best friend didn’t make it. But I think he’ll do just fine with all of those girls around!
he he he. I'm glad you wrote the script for his skit. Very cute. Congrats, Ryan! My brother's slogan in gradeschool was "vote for Al, he's your pal." I don't think that one was a winner... Thanks for all the blog updates, Melanie!
